Can I buy Zojoji Temple omamori online from outside Japan?

Zojoji's own online shop ships within Japan only, so there is no way to have its charms sent to a US address directly from the temple.

Zojoji became the family temple of the Tokugawa clan in the early 1600s, when Tokugawa Ieyasu, the shogun who unified Japan, made it the head temple of the Pure Land school in Edo (old Tokyo). Six shoguns are laid to rest on its grounds.

In 2023, the temple’s three complete sets of the Buddhist canon — printed in China and Korea between the 12th and 13th centuries and gathered by Ieyasu — were inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register as documents of global significance.

Its temple buildings have also appeared on the big screen: Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine (2013) filmed scenes at Zojoji, with the temple grounds as the backdrop for a key scene.

Because Ieyasu is said to have prayed here before his decisive victories, many of the charms at Zojoji are associated with 勝運 (shōun) — luck in winning.
